CAMH is not just a bustling academic hospital – fully affiliated with the University of Toronto – but an integrated community committed to supporting recovery for the more than 27,000 patients who come through our doors each year.
We run Toronto’s busiest psychiatric emergency room, and our nearly 600 beds are consistently at or near capacity. We care for young people facing debilitating anxiety or first episode psychosis; men and women with chronic addictions or other complex disorders; newcomers suffering from posttraumatic stress and resettlement issues; seniors with dementia and memory loss. Every year, CAMH responds to over 400,000 outpatient visits.
Collectively, our clients are at the centre of what we do at CAMH. In each of our 10 clinical care programs, we focus on individual needs and strengths, showing mutual respect, and encouraging client participation while delivering the highest standard of care and practice.
And our globally respected research enterprise – from fundamental neuroscience to international, social and preventative research – benefits from the translational “pull” of our busy clinical practice and influential health promotion work: Frontline care informing high quality research and public policy. The goal? Compassionate, effective – and personalized – health solutions for people everywhere living with mental illness and addictions.
